Shakespeare's first great tragedy has fascinated and enthralled audiences for nearly 400 years, but remains as relevant and urgent as ever.

Simon Russell Beale, described by the Daily Telegraph as 'the finest actor of his generation' plays the title role. His previous Shakespeare includes Othello (Iago) for the National, Richard III (title role), Troilus and Cressida (Thersites) and The Tempest (Ariel) at the RSC. Other work at the National includes Battle Royal and John Caird's productions of Money and Candide, for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Running time is 3 hours 30 minutes including a 20 minute interval.

Hamlet Observed, the book about this production is available soon from our bookshop.

This production returned to the Olivier Theatre after its world tour. To see information on this click here.
