Recent Touring history

Since 1994, many NT productions, including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Death of a Salesman, Wild Oats, The London Cuckolds, The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Rose, Private Lives, Closer, The Oresteia, The Heiress, Sparkleshark, Hamlet, Noises Off, Hinterland, The Good Hope, Closing Time, Sanctuary and The Associate have been seen on tour around the UK by over a quarter of a million people.
In 1997 to 1998 Othello completed a world tour which took in Salzburg, Phoenix, Warsaw, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Wellington, Adelaide and New York; Not About Nightingales went to Houston, Texas, from June to July 1998 ; An Enemy of the People played at the Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles, from July to September 1998 and also visited Connecticut, where Copenhagen was also seen in June of that year. In 2000 and 2001, Hamlet visited Elsinore, Stockholm, Belgrade and Boston, Minneapolis, Phoenix and New York.

Other productions from the NT to be seen in New York include Carousel, Arcadia, Indiscretions (Les Parents Terribles), Racing Demon, Skylight, Stanley, Closer and Amy's View - the last four were nominated for twenty-three Tony Awards between them - Copenhagen, Our Lady of Sligo, Rose and Noises Off.
The Oresteia visited Toronto in April 2000.

Elsewhere in London: Oh What a Lovely War, after touring the UK in a big top, played a season at the Roundhouse; An Inspector Calls was in the West End from 1995 to 2002, at the Aldwych Theatre, then the Garrick and finally the Playhouse Theatre; Closer played an extended run at the Lyric, The Invention of Love was at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, Baby Doll was at the Albery, Copenhagen was at the Duchess, Gagarin Way was at the Arts Theatre, The Island was at the Old Vic, Humble Boy was at the Gielgud Theatre and Vincent in Brixton was at Wyndhams Theatre.

The Madness of George III and Richard III were also adapted as major feature films. Other National Theatre productions that have been filmed recently include King Lear, Oklahoma! and The Merchant of Venice.
